PYE, Bonnie Eleanor, age 68, peacefully in hospital, Kingston, Ontario, after a lengthy illness, on Sunday, February 15, 2009. Bonnie (nee Smith), beloved wife to Gordon Pye, for over 40 years. Loving mother of David Pye of Portland, Ontario and Janet Pye of Boston, Massachusetts. Dear daughter of Claire Larson of Burlington, Ontario and the late Jimmy Smith. In keeping with Bonnie’s wishes, cremation will be immediate. A celebration of her life will be held at the family home in Portland, Ontario, on Saturday, May 16, two days prior to her birthday. For those desiring to offer condolences or to request further details, please contact her son, David, at: dave@davepye.com. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to a local cancer centre or palliative care facility of your choice.

This is a casual, social event and we hope those friends of Bonnie in attendance both see some old acquaintances and have the chance to make new ones. There will be a short ceremony after which anyone who’d like to will be invited to share their memories. Food, soft drinks, beer and wine will be served and if you’d like to bring a tray of brownies, 2-liter bottle of pop etc. - please feel free.

Accommodations:

If you plan on staying overnight please let us know if you’d like a bedroom/couch at our house or possibly one of our neighbor’s. Here is a list of local hotels and B&Bs if you’d prefer to make your own arrangements.

Directions:

From the West (Toronto)

  • Drive East on the 401 all the way to Kingston.
  • Take the exit to HWY 15 and turn left at the end of the ramp.
  • Drive NE on 15 for 40 minutes until you get to Crosby.
  • In about 2km watch for Big Rideau Lake Road on the left, right across from Go Power Sports.

From the East (Ottawa)

  • Take 417 South from Ottawa to Roger Stevens Drive.
  • Travel West on Roger Stevens for half an hour to Smiths Falls.
  • Take HWY 15 from Smiths Falls to Portland.
  • In about 2km watch for Big Rideau Lake Road on the right, across from Go Power Sports.

From Big Rideau Lake Road

  • Stay on BRLR for about 10 minutes during which time you’ll turn left, right left, right and then turn right onto Cheetham Road.
  • On your left after 1km you’ll see a wooden sign: “Seward’s Country Lane” turn left and go down the hill.
  • The road twists downwards through the woods and then heads up quickly where you’ll see a sign: “4410”. That’s us.

Please RSVP at the bottom of this page if you plan on coming to the Memorial so we can get an estimate of people attending. Everyone and anyone is welcome and the more the merrier. There are people coming from as far away as Florida and as close as down the road. It will be a celebration of her life by the lake which will likely continue into the night.

    I’m so happy that I had time to spend with your mom when I was back home at Christmas. Despite all the challenges she faced in the past few years, she always showed incredible courage. She will be missed.
    Bob and I will definitely attend your mom’s memorial.

    Mom & Dad (Ian & Jackie McDonald) will be attending the memorial. I’m sorry I cannot be there, but if I can take this time to higlight that it’s obvious just from being on this site how much she was loved, especially by her children. I will always remember her smile and warmth.

    Wouldn’t miss Bonnie’s memorial, your mom was a great person, she always carried herself with grace and dignity, regardless, of the situation. I’ll be there, however, Wentworth is unable to attend.

    I will not be able to attend Bonnie’s memorial tomorrow, but she and her family will be in my heart, thoughts and prayers. Bonnie has left an imprint on my heart; and, from what I’ve read on her memory wall, she has left a deep imprint on many hearts.
